Oldham Athletic succumbed to a last-minute goal, sealing a 1-0 loss to Leyton Orient in Harry Kewell's debut League Two match in charge.
Oldham started slow but gathered momentum and were even with Leyton for the vast majority of the match, creating two clear chances through new striker, former Southampton forward Conor McAleny.
But an 89th minute heartbreaker courtesy of Danny Johnston sealed an exciting victory for Orient, who finished 17th in last season's League Two table, two places ahead of Oldham.
Kewell's new A-League signing, George Blackwood, wasn't in the matchday squad.
Kewell said before the match that his team were still far from the finished product.
"I don't think you can judge a team on the first six games of the season," he told the Oldham News.
"Anything can happen, it can be a free-for-all, but I'm really looking forward to it. I don't mind pressure, I've lived with it my whole life as a player and a coach.
"If you're not under pressure, that means you're comfortable, you get lazy, you get soft.
"It takes time for players to gel and this is a new team, it's still early days.Don't judge a book by its cover yet. It takes time to read a story and we're only on the first few chapters."
