Robbie Fowler has assembled a new squad, including new club captain Aldred.

Roar upset Sydney FC in the FFA Cup and the defender believes that surprise factor can help them.

"Teams don't know much about what they're going to come up against us when they face us," he said.

"Players that haven't played in the league before. There's going to be that uncertainty when they face us. For us it's a good thing... they don't know what they're getting so sometimes we can shock teams with what we're going to give them.

"I think people have a rough idea about us. I would imagine they'll do their homework. But we took Sydney a bit by surprise with how we've played. We're going to like to think we can do that going forward."

Brisbane start the 2019/20 campaign away against Perth Glory.

Aldred, who has spent the past 11 years playing for clubs in England and Scotland, will lead the Roar for the first time in the A-League.

The 29-year-old can't wait to get started and for Fowler's men to spring some shocks.

"For us, we're a brand-new team," the Englishman said.

"We're really looking forward to the start of the season. We have go under the radar a bit, but that's good. We feel like we're an exciting team and going forward and we can cause many problems for the other teams in the league and do well."
