"It was a good final point, but of course we wanted to reach knockout stage. We deserved more, I'm sure of it. It was in our power to qualify for the next round. We created chances both in the first and the second [group stage] games. But, unfortunately, we cannot change the past. Our team is sad now, because we deserved to reach the knockout stage," Guerrero said.

He added that the goal was to train better for the future tournaments, noting that the young Peruvian team will have a chance to show what they are capable of at the next World Cup.

Peru beat Australia 2-0 in their final group C game at the Fisht Stadium in Sochi, but still failed to reach the knockout stage and were eliminated from the tournament.
