Manuel Pellegrini's Malaga were stunned when the league's bottom side took the lead on 23 minutes through Aranda.

But Sebastian Fernandez scored a crucial goal on the stroke of half-time for the hosts and it changed the complexion of the match completely.

Malaga started the second half in buoyant fashion and their pressure eventually told when Paraguayan defender Paulo da Silva turned the ball into his own net on 67 minutes.

That opened the floodgates and Argentinean defender Martin Demichelis joined Isco and Jose Salomon Rondon as goalscorers in the final 15 minutes for the winners.

Malaga's victory saw them climb to fifth on the table, one spot below Levante who left it late before winning 2-1 at Espanyol.

Valdo scored the opener after 24 minutes for Levante but it looked like both sides would share the spoils after Kalu Uche equalised for the hosts.

Uche's goal came 15 minutes from time and set up an exciting finale, with substitute Ruben Suarez scoring the winner on 89 minutes, just moments after being introduced.

In other matches, Christian Stuani's penalty with 16 minutes to play saw Racing Santander claim a point in a 1-1 draw against Sporting Gijon, while Real Betis and Getafe's match ended in the same scoreline.
