Aaron Mooy could be back in the Manchester City fold next season, according to UK reports.
According to ESPN the English Champions were impressed by Mooy’s performances for Huddersfield Town and in the World Cup and could activate a £20m buy-back clause.
City have continued to monitor the progress of the Socceroo midfielder whose loan deal to the Terriers was made permanent last year.
Huddersfield will be loathe to part with the Australian.
The 27-year-old was a pivotal figure in helping Huddersfield win promotion to the topfight and then narrowly avoid relegation in 2017/18.
Mooy's attention can return to domestic football after the Socceroos were bundled out of the World Cup overnight following a toothless 2-0 loss to Peru which left them bottom of Group C.
