The 29-year-old will join on a free transfer after his contract expired at A-League club Melbourne City, signing on a two-year deal which will keep him at Tynecastle until 2020.

Bozanic, who was part of the Socceroos’ 2014 World Cup squad, has been capped seven times by his country but hasn’t played for Australia since 2015.

The midfielder joined City on a short-term deal in February after leaving Japanese top-flight side Ventforet Kofu.

He played nine times for manager Warren Joyce, as City finished third in the A-League before losing to Newcastle Jets in the Finals Series.

Bozanic started his career in Australia with Central Coast Mariners before moving to England to join Reading in 2007.

After failing to break into the first team, he spent time on loan at Woking, Cheltenham Town and Aldershot Town before re-signing for the Mariners in 2010.

Bozanic also played for Swiss Superleague club Luzern and Melbourne Victory.
