Why the Stutteroos are still misfiring at the Asian Cup
What happened to the well-oiled machine we saw in recent friendlies? The Socceroos’ Asian Cup campaign so far has been more like my father’s old Valiant – firing on all three. Three if we’re lucky!

The Socceroos were hard to watch against India...but there's one obvious solution
We’ve all seen footage of those subcontinental trains and buses with people piled in (and on top) in any old fashion – clutching luggage, children and animals. The Socceroos got to see it first hand last night as India parked a fleet of buses, teeming with desperate defenders – and nearly got something from the game.

Why the Australian media totally ignores the Asian Cup
I feel like there’s been very little in the way of fanfare for the Asian Cup starting this week. Could that be because we don’t have a lot of confidence in our chances? Or do we simply not care very much? Or is it something more sinister?

Tilio? Are You Kidding Arnie?
Socceroos fans have mostly welcomed the team announced today by Graham Arnold. But there is at least one selection leaving many fans scratching their heads.

Australia v Scotland: Never Mind the Quality, Feel the Width!
Given the interest of Australians in how their favourite ex-players fare overseas and the number of ex-A Leaguers now playing in Scotland, there are quite a lot of Aussies now featuring on Scottish fan forums. This inevitably leads to arguments about the respective quality of the SPL and the A League.

Australia did just enough overnight to go four points clear at the top of their World Cup qualifying group against Palestine.

Could the NSD be more successful than the A League?
A National Second Division and promotion/relegation are a huge part of the answer.

Socceroos 'notorious' World Cup squads come on a fateful day
The 2026 World Cup qualifying process begins on Thursday night, the 16th of November, and while I detest what FIFA is doing with the next few World Cups, I can’t help but get excited when the Socceroos stride the world stage. So… deep breath… here we go again, against Bangladesh and Palestine for starters.

The Socceroos Go To Wembley
For the first time ever, Australia will play England at the home of football – Wembley Stadium – and I, for one, am deeply concerned.

Could the AFC split into two confederations?
So the Asian Confederation has already thrown its support behind the Saudi bid for the 2034 World Cup. That was quick…

Rangers are dooming themselves to Celtic's shadow if they don't appoint Muscat
Glasgow Rangers are in trouble. The SPL season is only 7 matches in and they are already 7 points behind Celtic. I know very little about Michael Beale – Rangers manager – but I do know this: Rangers will get nowhere near Celtic with Beale in charge.

People are beginning to make the 'outrageous' claim that Ange Postecoglou is the best in the world
After Ange’s barnstorming run through Japan, Scotland and now England, winning everything in sight… might he already be regarded as the best manager in the world?

Could Money Ever Destroy Football?
What would it take to kill football? The biggest, most popular sport in history, watched and played by billions, has never been so certain of its own mega-destiny. Everyone loves football… Or do they?

Ange Postecoglou is on the brink of winning a domestic treble with Celtic – that’s five trophies out of a possible six in just two seasons. (I hope I haven’t jinxed him saying that…) But others are watching...
