A group of Tasmanian business persons are considering making a bid for an A-League license in the coming years. Tasmania has a high proportion of junior football players for its population and, given the lack of an AFL team, might be considered a viable possibility for A-League expansion.

Much like the Gold Coast case, it may be possible that the A-League can capitalise on the sluggishness of the AFL in securing regional expansion for their competition. Local newspapers have recently been running articles on the long running desire to have a Tasmanian side in the AFL, but given the poor performance of the Tasmanian side in the VFL it would seem difficult to convince investors and the AFL of their case.

Initially, a feasibility study will be undertaken by the group whom have already met with Football Federation Tasmania to discuss the matter.
