Head coach Oscar Tabarez said he did not want to talk about his future with the team after Uruguay suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of France in the World Cup quarter-final match in Nizhny Novgorod on Friday and were eliminated from the tournament.

"Everybody knows what maestro [Tabarez] means to us, to the national team, to Uruguay. He deserves respect for what he has done for the team, and I hope for good news," Suarez told journalists.

He also apologized to the fans for failing to qualify for the semi-finals.

"We must apologize to our fans, although we've really done everything we could to qualify for the World Cup semi-finals, but failed to do so. The fact of [forward Edinson] Cavani missing the game due to injury can't be an excuse," Suarez said.
