The current cup holders take on Rockdale on August 1 at Illiden Sports Centre in the round of 32.

The Suns are coached by former Sky Blues midfielder Paul Reid and currently sit in fifth spot on the NSW NPL ladder with nine wins and two draws from 19 matches.

Reid’s team include a number of former full-time pros, including Ante Covic, Daniel Petkovski, Trent McClenahan and Alec Urosevski, three of whom are ex-Sydney FC players.

"We have to make sure we’re ready and have done our homework on them,” Corica told FourFourTwo.

"We’ve been out to have a look at them, our assistant coach has been out. We’ll make sure the boys are ready. Physically they will have been back a month when that game comes so they’ll be getting up to their peak fitness.

"Mentally they’ll be prepared as well for a game like that. We’re looking forward to it, it will be the first real game.

"We won the FFA Cup last year and we want to do well in that competition and see if we can go back-to-back."

Last year the Sky Blues beat Adelaide United 2-1 to win their first FFA Cup.

Corica said his preparations for the upcoming A-League season are on track. This month Sydney FC have won both their pre-season fixtures, a 5-0 win over Dunbar Rovers and a 3-0 victory against Sutherland Sharks.

"Preparations are going really well," he said.

"We’ve been back four weeks now. We’ve got the core base back of our squad, which is great. Obviously we’re still looking for players to come in and recruiting, but that takes time.

"We’re just going to make sure we get the right players to come in that fit our culture and system. But it’s going really well."
