Blighted by injuries during his two years on the Hunter, the live-wire Piscopo, 26, never quite delivered on a consistent basis after arriving amid much fanfare from Wellington Phoenix.

However, Victory chiefs believe the former Olyroo can relight the fire in his game for the Navy Blues in much the same vein as another hitherto underachiever, Daniel Arzani.

The latter’s recall to the Socceroos fold after a long absence is testament to working in a high performance environment under coach Tony Popovic.

And the prevailing wisdom among Victory chiefs is that Piscopo, once touted as a future Socceroo, could follow suit and reignite a career which burned brightly before the flame dimmed over the past two seasons in which he made 33 appearances for a perennially struggling Jets outfit.

Victory are still waiting on Popovic’s final decision on whether to accept a reduced pay deal to remain in situ, or possibly move offshore, with Hajduk Split closely monitoring the situation but yet to make a formal approach.
