Socceroos keeper Joe Gauci is on the brink of a dream move to Aston Villa, whilst budding Melbourne Victory left back Franco Lino is set to join the Adelaide United ace in Europe as the curtain closes on the January transfer window.
Coming the other way, according to reports in Poland, is 31-year-old attacking midfielder Sonny Kittel, who has parted company with top flight side Raków Czestochowa and is purportedly bound for Western Sydney.
Currently in Qatar on Asian Cup duty for the Socceroos, the move to the Premier League represents a massive career opportunity for Gauci, 23, who would provide extra cover for Villa’s unimpeachable number one, Emiliano Martinez, a World Cup winner with Argentina and voted the world’s best gloveman at the Ballon d’Or Ceremony late last year.
Signed by United ahead of the 2020-21 season from Melbourne City, Gauci extended his contract in April with until the end of the 2026 and is expected to attract a significant fee.
Lino, meanwhile, attracted European interest whilst on Young Socceroos duty in Portugal last year and that attention has translated into something more concrete, with the 18-year-old expected to depart Victory for a unnamed club imminently.
Playing second fiddle to Adama Traore this season, Lino has amassed just 152 minutes from six appearances, five of which were off the bench.
However he’s considered a bright prospect with the technical attributes to progress on the Continent.
