Bayern Munich’s interest in all things Australian has taken a new twist, with 16-year-old twin brothers Alexi and James Houridis heading to Germany to trial with the German giants later this month.
The siblings, both part of Melbourne Victory’s youth set up, are currently in Italy on Joeys duty - and are dreaming of joining rising Aussies, goalkeeper Anthony Pavlešić and wonder kid Nestory Irankunda, in Baveria.
The pair, who turned 16 in January, played for Brad Maloney’s Joeys in their win over Switzerland’s U-17s on Thursday and are expected to line up together again in Tuesday’s friendly against Inter Milan.
After the completion of the Joeys camp they will head straight to Bayern Munich’s state of the art youth campus to try and impress with the U-19s before also trialing at fellow Bundesliga outfit Freiberg before returning home.
Former Joeys gloveman Pavlešić, now 18, signed with Bayern last year after a successful trial and is now firmly ensconced with the club’s U-19s, whilst the explosive Irankunda will train with the first team when he arrives in Munich in June.
The brothers are already making waves in their home state - both have trained with Victory’s A-League squad and led Victoria U-15’s to the Nationals title with Alexi winning player of the tournament.
Alexi is a silky skilled goalscoring number 10 whilst is James is a technically astute controlling number 6 in the Rodri mould.
