Football Federation Australia (FFA) has been fined almost AU$9,000 and put on notice for fielding an ineligible player at this year’s Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Futsal Championships.
The punishment comes 10 months after the tournament in Uzbekistan where Australia lost to Thailand in the quarter-finals.
In an official AFC statement, Australia violated Article 57.1 whereby it fielded an ineligible player in all six of its matches at the Championships.
It is unclear which player was ineligible nor why it took 10 months for the penalty to be handed down.
The AFC has informed the FFA that “a repeat violation of the provision will be met with more severe punishment”.
As a result of the violation, all of the Futsalroos' results will be overturned to 3-0 defeats.
